Inter Sport Egypt’s IT Manager, Mohamed Emad, shares how the sporting goods retailer is building its retail operations on Retail Pro Prism.
Tell us about InterSport.
With retail sales of EUR 11.9 billion in 2019 and more than 5,500 affiliated stores in 43 countries, Inter Sport is one of the world’s leading sporting goods retailers. In December 2012, Inter Sport acquired the Athletic Streetstyle banner, The Athlete’s Foot, with around 560 stores in 30 countries and retail sales of 0.4 billion in 2019. In total, the INTERSPORT Group has a turnover of EUR 12.3 billion is represented in 57 countries on all five continents.
Each Inter Sport store is independently owned and run. With an understanding of our local customer and sports club like no other, we are able to provide the best advice, guidance and value for all of our services and products.
What business challenges are you solving with Retail Pro today?
We chose Retail Pro Prism because it gave us full control over security with detailed permissions we can set.
We also wanted Retail Pro Prism for its promotions capabilities. Retail Pro Prism gives us flexibility to combine promotion types within the system and build out the specific sale we want to launch.
We use Retail Pro Reports for a comprehensive view into our stores’ performance. We’re able to build our own reports in the system so we can see the specific KPIs we need to track and make sure our stores are hitting their targets.
Retail Pro Prism’s ability to integrate with our existing systems was really important. We wanted to connect the Retail Pro Prism data with our Magento ecommerce platform and our ERP systems to save time with automated data transfer.
How are you building omnichannel with Retail Pro?
We use Retail Pro Prism’s Send Sale capabilities. Send sale lets us make a sale for a product that’s at a different store location. That way, we make sure our customers get what they need each time they visit us, even if it’s from a different Inter Sport location, rather than going to our competitors.
The sale is confirmed with other stores. We trained cashiers to confirm and follow up on the sale. Our reports also show we have increased our sales between stores by using the Send Sale capabilities.
Has your Retail Pro been specially configured or customized for your business needs? What challenges or needs were these customizations designed to address?
We’ve integrated Retail Pro Prism with Magento, VISA machines for integrated payments, Microsoft NAV, and Hits.

What does the future look like for your company?
We plan to go deeper in using the Retail Pro Prism technology and to be integrated and joining the internet of things with technologies like iPad and Smartphones connected with our systems.
We also plan to improve our digital customer engagement by personalizing our marketing emails with insights from the detailed customer analysis we get in Retail Pro Prism.
